Cal Phil 2014 Season: Broadway & Bolero
They say travel broadens the mind, but this summer Cal Phil proves travel also broadens the soul. Maestro Vener and the orchestra will guide you around the globe in a concert of musical mementos from some of the world’s greatest composers. Dance to the rhythms of Spain in Rimsky-Korsakov’s brilliant orchestral masterpiece Capriccio Espagnol, feel pangs of the heart in music from the Academy Award winning film Out Of Africa, let Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony captivate you with its infectious joy, yearn for the Emerald Isle’s storied hills with music from Far And Away, then take a trip to the planet Pandora and transform your entire being through the magic of Avatar. Joining the orchestra is pianist Bryan Pezzone, who will dazzle you with his riveting performance of Gershwin’s Second Rhapsody for Piano and Orchestra, the composer’s ode to New York City penned during a stint in Hollywood.
