Share Our Love of Music

The Greek language has numerous words for love. The foremost often cited being Storge, Philia, Eros, and Agape, which, in short translate to familial, friendship, romantic, and spiritual.

In our Hallmark Card culture we often associate Valentine’s Day with Eros, the Romantic aspect of Love. But the tradition of Valentine’s Day is actually a holiday steeped in ancient folkloric customs, from the pre-Roman pastoral purification and fertility rite of Lupercalia, to the European belief in the Middle Ages that birds look for their mates on February 14th, to modern day school children making crafts and indulging in candy.

We here at the California Philharmonic would like to invite all of you to share our love of music this Valentine’s Day weekend with our playlist of romantic favorites.
