Entertainment Industry’s Triple-Threat Wows With Her Street Hip-Hop Style of Dance During Historic Performance with Cal Phil’s World Class Orchestra.
July 16, 2018, Pasadena/Los Angeles – In another history-making move, California Philharmonic Maestro Victor Vener brilliantly blends the old with the new and classic music with modern dance as he partners with special guest Alyson Stoner to present an awe-inspiring performance of Stravinsky’s Rite Of Spring. The powerful performance is set to take place during Symphonic Dances, the orchestra’s third concert of the 2018 summer season on Sunday, July 29th.
“Our piece is unexpected and controversial, like Stravinsky’s original. There is much technique, much effort, and intention, however, you’ll see very few pirouettes and pointed toes,” Stoner explained referring to the dance she also choreographed. “Instead, we’ll showcase bone breaking, waacking, vogue, krump, b-boy, commercial hip-hop and a diverse culture and community.”
Still, Stoner shares that she was sure to understand “the music arrangement and history in order to ensure proper respect and consideration for the creative direction were given.”
“I have been looking forward to this concert for a long time,” said Vener who previously updated a classical score by incorporating pop dancers dressed as toy soldiers during a 2015 trending-rendition of the The Nutcracker. “Alyson’s vast talent and creativity shine bright as she takes on this historic challenge and delivers a riveting one-of-a-kind performance that will leave people speechless and wanting more.”
An accomplished actress, singer, and dancer with more than a million followers worldwide, Stoner’s performance marks her debut with California Philharmonic as well as dancing with a full professional orchestra.
“I’m grateful that the Cal Phil team is not afraid to experiment and push boundaries with their programming,” said Stoner who has a growing list of credits including starring in numerous television shows including the Emmy-award winning Phineas and Ferb, feature films such as the hot Step Up franchise, and music videos with the likes of Missy Elliott. “Their curiosity and thirst for the optimal music and entertainment experience show why people near and far travel to witness them in-person.”
“I’m most looking forward to spontaneous synergy and absolute presence on the day of the performance. We will have to be so sensitive to the instrumentalists, surrendering to their guidance, even if it requires real-time adjustments on our part,” said Stoner who has collaborated with Maestro Vener on the creative aspect of the performance. “But suspension and risk are where the magic happens.”
Symphonic Dances also features special guest and revered saxophonist Harvey Kittel. America’s foremost classical saxophonist, Pattel will perform John Williams dazzling and virtuosic saxophone solo Catch Me If You Can as well as three of the most vibrant ballet classics ever composed.
Cal Phil at Walt Disney Concert Hall performances start at 2:00 pm, with the intimate pre-concert Talks With The Maestro at 1:00 pm in BP Hall.
